Bus stop tree

1998
one girl in perfume, scarf, jeans tight
walking quiet to post-library beach
with the calm financial might
to hand phone parents out of reach

talking gentle, body bump
in the orange evening air
laughing quiet, try not to thump
the half-peace of the birds up there

thinking trying, through time, to reach
a waiting memory by the beach
